THE ONEONTA GORGE

INTO THE GORGE

Oregon is filled with amazing hikes but nothing compares to this magical place. I have been dreaming of visiting the Oneonta Gorge for years. This place looks like a scene from the movie, The Maze Runner. The most unique little hike I have ever done and definitely one of my favorites. It truly is nature’s obstacle course. The hike consisted of climbing over a giant log pile and dipping in chest deep of freezing ice cold water which led us to an amazing hidden waterfall. We were so lucky to have this place practically to ourselves!

The beginning of the hike takes you through this lush jungle.

Pretty tricky climbing over those wobbly logs.

I have seen so many photos taken from this exact spot but nothing compares to seeing it in person. Especially when it’s this empty.

Oneonta Falls in the distance.

The water may look only knee deep but it’s deeper!

Did I mention the water was freezing cold? Hence the blurry pictures taken with my shivering hands.

The reward. So lush and green. Completely all to ourselves!

I wanted to stay forever!

Must go back the same way we came in. I will always remember this exact moment when my boyfriend, Glenn and I were stuck frozen in this very spot. We could not believe how cold the water was and it kept getting deeper the further we went!

This is what trying to escape from the ice cold water as fast as possible looks like!
